Feeding our Future
Across Canada, 85% of children who depend on food programs for free and reduced-price lunches during the school year go without nutritious lunches during the summer – that’s more than 1 million children. In Canada, more than 37.1% of all food bank recipients are children. To help alleviate this problem, Sodexo established the Feeding Our Future program. Funded by the Sodexo Foundation, Feeding Our Future donates the food and labour necessary to provide summer lunches to children who would otherwise go hungry. The program was launched in Toronto with support from a client kitchen, and Second Harvest. The program has since grown to include Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. To date, Feeding Our Future has provided over 500,000 free meals to at risk children in Canada.
Servathon
Sodexo sets aside each April for employees across Canada to join forces to fight hunger in their local communities. Projects vary from city to city, including canned food drives and donations of excess food, cleaning food banks, fundraisers, and free seminars on food safety for food banks and homeless shelters.
Food Donations
Sodexo continues to make a difference each day as one of the largest donors of surplus perishable and non-perishable food to Second Harvest. We strongly encourage each of our 6,000 account locations to “recycle” surplus food by donating to local food recovery partners supported by the Sodexo Foundation.
Heroes of Every Day Life
The Sodexo Foundation Heroes of Every Day Life program honours Sodexo employees who devote time, talent, and service spirit to help people who suffer from hunger in their communities. Heroes are nominated by colleagues or friends and are recognized during the annual Sodexo Foundation Dinner. To honor our heroes’ efforts, the Sodexo Foundation makes donations to local hunger-related charities of their choice.
Supported Program: National Hunger Awareness Day
The goal of Food Banks Canada’s Hunger Awareness Day movement is to raise awareness about the solvable problem of hunger in Canada. Across the country, over 700 food banks and 3,000 affiliated agencies distribute food or provide meals for hungry people. Sodexo is proud to continue as a Corporate Hunger Hero of National Hunger Awareness Day.
