August 24, 2011 - This summer, the Sodexo Foundation and friends prepared free lunches for thousands of high-need children across Canada.  Now in its 11th year, Feeding Our Future® has provided over 750,000 free meals from coast to coast.

The program which started in Toronto in 2000 has now grown to nine cities including Burlington, Oakville, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Regina, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. Simply put, the Feeding Our Future® program provides free nutritious meals to at risk children during the summer when they are away from public school.

The Sodexo Foundation has been very fortunate to work closely with hunger agencies, clients of Sodexo, manufacturer and supplier partners and many Sodexo employee and family volunteers. Feeding Our Future® has become a shining example of how communities and corporations can collaborate together to make a real difference.

Charlotte Redekop-Young, Executive Director with Food for Life in Halton Region, Ontario comments “The Feeding Our Future program provides a wonderful opportunity for many children in Halton region to obtain the nourishment necessary - through a healthy lunch - to be involved in a full day of summer camp activities.  Food for Life is grateful for the generous support of the Sodexo Foundation in being able to provide free nutritious lunches to Halton region children at the following camps: In Oakville at the Kerr Street Ministries Camp and Arthouse Camp at Sheridan College and in Burlington at Life Church Camp, Our Community Cares and Our Kids Network Aldershot”.

“Today there is enough food to feed those in need. If we have the passion and invest the time and energy we can beat hunger. I am so proud to work with likeminded clients of Sodexo, hunger relief agencies and food banks, manufacturers and distributers and many volunteers who collectively provided more than 100,000 meals this summer to hungry children. This is what Feeding Our Future is all about”. Shares Jon Kristjanson, Executive Director, Sodexo Foundation.
