This summer, the Sodexo Foundation and friends provided free lunches for thousands of high-need children in eight Canadian cities. Now in its 10th year, Feeding Our Future® has provided over 550,000 free meals to at risk children across Canada.
The program which started in Toronto in 2000 has now grown to eight cities including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. Simply put, the Sodexo Foundation's Feeding Our Future® program provides free nutritious meals to at risk children during the summer when they are away from public school.
Celebrity Chef Michael Smith is the national spokesperson, and is passionate about the program. “There are thousands of children in this country who don't look forward to summer, because it means they don't get their breakfast or lunch at school. Through Feeding Our Future®, the Sodexo Foundation and food programs around the country are ensuring that these kids will have at least one healthy meal a day.”
The Sodexo Foundation has been very fortunate to work closely with hunger agencies, clients of Sodexo, manufacturer and supplier partners and many Sodexo employee and family volunteers. Feeding Our Future® has become a shining example of how communities and corporations can collaborate together to make a real difference.
Sodexo clients supporting the program include Telus, Mount Royal College, The Greenwood Inn Winnipeg, Trinity College, Canada Post, Collège Jean De Brebeuf, and Dalhousie University Student's Union.
Community agency partners include the Boys' and Girls' Club of Greater Vancouver, Community Kitchens of Calgary, Winnipeg Harvest, Toronto's Second Harvest, Mission Services of Hamilton, Ottawa Food Bank, Moisson Montreal, and Feed Nova Scotia.
Manufacturers and Supplier partners include Canada Bread, Canbra Foods, Gordon Food Services, Hector Larivee, Kraft, Lassonde Beverages, Maple Leaf, Olymel, Quaker, Pathways, Parmalat, Shafer Haggart, Sysco and Unilever.
